Our Top 5 Favorite Things To Do in New York
Posted: Sep 07 2017
New York Fashion Week has us feeling sentimental about our favorite city. Fashion week may be our favorite week in New York, but we love this city 365 days a year! The list of things to do here is as long as the island itself. However, every New Yorker (or wannabe) has a list of favorite places they can't wait to visit over and over again. Here are our top 5!
The Met Costume Institute
Each summer the Met Costume Institute showcases a new fashion exhibit that explores designers and time periods that changed the course of fashion history. Opening night coincides with the famous Met Gala, the most fashionable event of the year. The exhibit generally runs from May to September. Recent exhibits include Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty (2011), Punk: Chaos to Couture (2013), and Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology (2016). The gown above was displayed at the Manus x Machina exhibit. It is a wedding ensemble designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel in the Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 Collection.
Cafe Lalo on the Upper West Side
Made famous by the movie "You've Got Mail", this European cafe serves deliciously flavored coffees and decadent desserts in a quaint setting with floor to ceiling windows and exposed brick walls. It feels every bit New York and the fact that Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan once ate here just makes it that much more special. We highly recommend the Moroccan Mint tea with a double chocolate brownie.
Shopping in SOHO
You can find high-end fashion mixed with well-preserved vintage along the streets of SOHO. Whether you are looking for a current Prada handbag, a vintage Chanel suit or a Herman Miller lounge chair, it is all there for the taking. The narrow cobble-stone streets and towering lofts above just add to the incredibly cool vibe of this eclectic New York neighborhood. Shopping in SOHO is a must for any fashionista!
Located in the basement of the Mercer Hotel, Mercer Kitchen is our favorite place to eat after a long day of shopping in SOHO. Exposed brick walls and candlelit sconces decorate the dining room that occasionally shakes from the intermittent rattling of the subway above. Don't be surprised to eat alongside a supermodel or movie star. We have spotted quite a few here! (Image via Mercer Kitchen)
A Broadway show is a must for everyone living in or visiting the city. Lining the streets of Times Square, you can find multiple theaters all housing magnificent musicals and plays. The talent in the productions on Broadway is unparalleled. Some of our favorite long-running shows include Hamilton, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera and any show that features the singer Sutton Foster!
Thanks for reading our blog. We hope it helps you plan your next visit to New York and that you discover you love the city as much as we do! Cheers!
